We took some 3 season tents out in the field to see how they perform.

Taiga International Solstice-R

Taiga Works is one of Vancouver’s great gear shops. They offer all styles of outdoor gear at very competitive prices. We would like to thank Taiga General Manager Karen for her help in providing a Solstice-R for Ecobeetle’s 3-Season Tent field review.

This Taiga International Solstice-R is Taiga’s popular 2 person, 3 season tent. It retails for $179.50 Canadian.

Specs - Weight - 7.7 lbs, Vestibule 25 square feet, Interior Height - 46 inches, Aluminum poles.

Set-up - Extremely easy with it’s clip suspended canopy. You will not find an easier tent to set-up.

Durability – Well put together, polyester floor and nylon canopy are standard for a mid-price backpacking tent. Seams are well sown with good workmanship throughout. Aluminum poles.

Function ability – features two doors and two vestibules. Plenty of room for two to sleep comfortably. Plastic windows on rain-fly a nice feature.

Haida Heritage Site

Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve/Haida Heritage Site is unique among the family of Parks Canada’s special places. It celebrates more than ten thousand years of connection between land, sea and Haida culture. Gwaii Haanas lies in the southern part of Haida Gwaii or Queen Charlotte Islands 640 kilometres north of Vancouver. It is a wild and remote area made up of some 138 islands that stretch 90 kilometres from north to south. Gwaii Haanas is a remote, rugged area with no roads and few services and facilities. Access is by kayak, boat or chartered aircraft. It has been described as Canada’s Galapagos Islands because of the life forms that are found only there. To find out more about this special place visit the Parks Canada web site.

1972 Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment

Regarded by many as the landmark event of the emergence of environmentalism because it conferred a legitimacy to environmental issues by placing them on the international political agenda. 113 countries and 19 intergovernmental panels were represented. It was a large conference and was perceived to symbolize the growing awareness and significance of environmental issues. It was from the Stockholm conference that UNEP and CITES were spawned, and the conference promoted the importance of environmental issues at a national scale and encouraged the development of national policies.

Aquamarine Adventures

Taking a trip to the west coast of Vancouver Island? Make time to visit Lance of Aquamarine Adventures located in Ucluelet, B.C

I had the pleasure of taking a Aquamarine Adventures whale watching trip through the Broken Group Islands in Pacific Rim National Park and what an incredible experience it was.

Safely aboard their 12 passenger zodiac, protective suits provided, our guided tour was fun, informative and exciting. Experienced skipper Lance Blackwell, former Canadian coast guard member, is a man who loves his job and strives to give his passengers a once in a lifetime thrill, which explains why his tours often run overtime. continued
